IS Justin Westhoff the ultimate man?

Justin Westhoff will celebrate 200 games at Port Adelaide against the Sydney Swans this weekend.

In a press conference this week Westy was asked why he sports a beard, to which he provided this 'legendary' response...

As hilarious as that response was, is there something more to the beard than meets the eye?

We delved deep into the health benefits associated with growing out facial fuzz and unsurprisingly, Westy is living proof of the benefits.

At portadelaidefc.com.au, we think Westy is the ultimate man and our reasons are backed by science.

1. If the beard stays, Westy will remain forever young

Research by the Uni of Southern Queensland revealed beards block up to 95 per cent of the sun’s UV rays, acting as a natural sunscreen and maintaining a youthful appearance.

Beards also lock in the face's natural moisture, meaning Westy doesn't look a day over 29!

2. He's a good father

Research indicates guys with full beards are perceived as being better and more protective fathers. Luckily for Westy's three children, Bodi, Tully and Piper, they have a pretty awesome dad!

3. He's got a healthy respiratory system

Beards can also prevent asthma attacks by trapping allergens and air pollutants from entering the body through your major airways. A healthy respiratory system is obviously vital for an elite footballer like Westy ... we're pretty sure he doesn't have asthma. Coincidence?

4. He's a good looking bloke

Studies by the University of New South Wales revealed that women find men with beards more physically attractive. We're sure Westy's wife, Rebecca would agree.

5. He's got the lumber-jack look down pat

The humble beard doesn't just increase your attractiveness, but can also make you look tougher and more aggressive.

Chuck a flanny on the Hoff and he can pull off a lumberjack or, as we showed in 2014, a damn good lead guitarist.
