The future in Defence is helping the Port Adelaide Football Club pay tribute to the past and present this Friday night at the Power’s Round 5 Anzac Round clash against St Kilda.

The result will be a fitting commemoration of Australia’s servicemen and women, particularly peacekeepers.

South Australia, through the SA Government Defence Unit, is home to almost a third of Australia’s defence industry, and as such South Australia is offering more jobs, more business, a strong economy and total commitment to the men and women of our fighting forces.

The Port Adelaide Football Club and SA Government Defence Unit – sponsor of Friday night’s game – along with the RSL and Department of Veterans Affair, have worked together to ensure we not only pay tribute to the Anzacs but also to the work that South Australia is doing in the area of Defence now and going forward.

This year marks the 60th anniversary of Australia’s involvement in international peace operations. Friday night’s game will be honouring the contribution of South Australia’s peacekeepers with a commemorative service and some very special activities.

Port Adelaide Football Club chief executive John James said the club always treasured the opportunity to host an Anzac Round game and the club was pleased to be partnering the SA Government Defence Unit on the night.

“The Port Adelaide Football Club has a great history of players who have served their country, including our current Joint No.1 Ticket Holder Bob Quinn. We are thrilled to be able to honour the Anzacs, particularly in the 60th year of Australia’s involvement in international peace operations,” James said.

“We are also pleased to spread the word of the great work being done by the SA Government Defence Unit. This is great state, and the work the Defence Unit is doing in bringing business to our state, including last year’s Air Warfare Destroyer contract reportedly worth $6 billion, is absolutely fantastic.

“We have done a lot of work to ensure Friday night’s game is a great tribute to our Anzacs as well as being engaging and educational for our supporters, young and old alike. We encourage all our supporters and South Australians to get along to the very special night.”

Activities on Friday night to commemorate the Anzacs include...
- Full commemorative service on ground before the first bounce
- Current and vintage military vehicles on display outside AAMI Stadium
- Acknowledgement of Port Adelaide Football Club and St Kilda players who have served in the Australian Defence Forces
