While Port Adelaide is contining to push itself to the limit during the pre-season in preparation for 2015, assistant coach Matthew Nicks says even more hard work is required if the squad wants to do well this year.

“We’re still a young group of players so the experience [of the last two seasons] is going to be the biggest part,” Nicks told Triple M on Wednesday.

“But there’s still a lot of work to do.”

Nicks says the Power still needs to find ways to match it with the best sides in the competition.

“When you watch the best teams in the comp play footy, they just seem so composed,” he said.

“Even when they play bad, they still find a way to win.”

According to Nicks, the key is now fine-tuning the Power’s game plan and producing the goods on game day.

"We’re not going to reinvent the wheel as far as trying to change our game plan, we’ll just try to polish it up.”

Patrick Ryder’s addition to the team is helping the team take their game to the next level.

“He’s been a real asset to us so far,” Nicks said.

“Paddy is a different style of ruckman, (to Matthew Lobbe) he’s been really good for the boys…a lot of our younger guys are learning a fair bit off him.”
