PORT Adelaide languishes in the bottom eight after an excruciatingly dour performance at the Gabba on Sunday night opposed to a lively four-quarter Brisbane.

Despite going into the game favourites and leading at quarter time, Port Adelaide was stunned by Brisbane's second quarter goal surge.

Winning crucial contests and running freely into attack, Brisbane also won the scoreboard in the second term, with six goals to Port's 1.6 giving a significant advantage to the home side in an often scrappy game.

Port had its chances - several, in fact - but overpossession of the football in attack and congested battles at key marking contests conspired against the Power to leave it trailing by a significant 21-point margin.

Brisbane, on the other hand, was clean, held marks and attacked the ball with desire.

Port rarely looked the sharp side pundits have become accustomed to seeing, and its defence was forced to manage waves of attack from the home side after half time.

As rain fell in the third quarter and threatened to wash out the Power's chances of a comeback, Port was able to hold firm and disallow the Lions running away with the match.

Angus Monfries flew the flag in attack to kick two goals, along with Jay Schulz's single from a strong mark, to keep the visitors in with a sniff.

But despite its best efforts, the Power couldn't match Brisbane's relentless attack.

The Lions slotted more than 60 points from stoppages and often looked to do so with clear air, running into space and kicking long, on the run.

Much like last week, the Power had to work hard for its opportunities, let alone conversions, and only Wingard and debutant Karl Amon scored in the fourth quarter.

Port Adelaide must now regroup quickly ahead of Kane Cornes's retirement game against Richmond in Round 8 at the Adelaide Oval, with the Tigers coming off a hard-fought win over Collingwood.
