PORT Adelaide captain Travis Boak is expected to play against Fremantle in round one, despite skipping Wednesday's captains' day in Melbourne with a corked hip.
Vice-captain Brad Ebert took Boak's place at Etihad Stadium and told AFL.com.au that the skipper had suffered the knock at training.
He said his late call-up to captains' day was simply to ensure Boak was given the best possible opportunity to enter the season opener in Perth in full health.
"He got a corky in his hip and they just didn't want him to fly," Ebert said.
"He should be fine for round one - I think it was purely just a precaution to make sure that there's not too much swelling."
Ebert also predicted star midfielder Hamish Hartlett would be ready to face the Dockers, having overcome the groin strain that kept him out of last Saturday's NAB Challenge finale against Adelaide.
The club was also optimistic Chad Wingard and Jackson Trengove would line up at Domain Stadium.
Wingard is nearing the end of his rehabilitation from knee surgery, while Trengove has been training fully and only needs to return to competitive work before the April 5 game.
"Chaddy's moving pretty freely, so that's good to see, and Jacko's back in main training – I'd imagine that from the way he's looking, he's looking pretty strong and looking ready to go for round one," Ebert said.
"If that's the case it'd be really handy acquisition for us."
Big-bodied midfielder Andrew Moore (corked hamstring) has also been declared available for round one, while youngster Sam Colquhoun has recovered from a knee reconstruction.
Colquhoun played 10 games in 2013 as the League's youngest player but ruptured his ACL in the SANFL in early 2014.
After just 11 months of rehabilitation he'll return for the Port Adelaide Magpies' opener in round two of the SANFL season.
