PORT Adelaide coach Mark Williams says the club will look to methods such as psychological profiling in a bid to combat the inconsistency that’s plagued its season.
The Power have managed consecutive wins just once this year and there’s been a huge discrepancy between their week-to-week and even quarter-to-quarter performances.
Port Adelaide’s best effort has seen it beat the likes of Adelaide, Hawthorn and the Brisbane Lions, but the club’s worst has resulted in losses to each of the bottom-four sides in the competition.
The Power have also struggled to hold firm when momentum turns against them and Williams said he would leave no stone unturned in trying to find the reasons why.
“I can’t lay it out to you right now, but we’ll be investigating [the inconsistency and drop-offs]. Whether it’s psychological profiling, leadership training or whatever. The club is very much aware of it and we’re searching for that [answer],” Williams said.
“Everyone is open to and happy to have suggestions. We get 1000 people sending in remedies whether it be hypnotherapy or something else. We listen, discuss it and try and pick the eyes out of it.
“Obviously, we have some restrictions as to the resources, but we try and make it one of the priorities of the club.”
Port Adelaide headed to Brisbane on Friday afternoon ahead of Saturday night’s clash with the Lions.
The Power must win this week to be any chance of reclaiming eighth spot on the AFL ladder.
Williams conceded his side’s results away from home this season had been a “disaster” but said there was no reason why they couldn’t turn it around this week.
“The players are still focused on what we need to do to give ourselves a chance to make the eight,” he said.
“The disappointment [of last weekend’s loss to Carlton] lasts for a day or two, but then you have to get back to [trying to figure out] what the hell we can do about it because we’ve still got some chance [to make the eight] and we want to take that chance if we can.”
