Ken Hinkley has made it clear that Port Adelaide will be back with a vengeance in 2016.
In his speech at Port Adelaide’s best and fairest count last weekend, Hinkley is preparing the Power for a year of pushing towards the ultimate goal.
“I said to the coaches through the week, there’s only one day a year you get to win a premiership” Hinkley said.
“Lucky for us, there’s 364 other days where you get to make sure you’re doing everything right to give yourself that opportunity, that’s what we’ll do in 2016,” he said.
Hinkley welcomed new players Charlie Dixon and Jimmy Toumpas, draftees Riley Bonner and Aidyn Johnson, and rookies Will Snelling, Dan Houston and Cam Hewett as well as new additions to the Power’s high performance staff.
But Hinkley stressed the newcomers would not guarantee improvement on the Power’s disappointing ninth-place finish in 2016.
“Whilst it’s great to get new people on board, it does not in any way guarantee success,” Hinkley said.
“Our supporters are a huge part of driving our club, you keep us accountable, you demand excellence and we strive to deliver for you every time.”
Hinkley’s speech was one of several throughout the night of Port Adelaide’s best and fairest presentation, including speeches from winners Robbie Gray and Steven Summerton, and new life members.
