HE'S just 16 years old, but Port blooded Kyle Chalmers is turning more than his own head in the pool.

The son of Port Adelaide life member and fan favourite Brett - a player for the club in both the AFL and SANFL - has qualified as part of the Australian team to visit Kazan, Russia for the 2015 FINA World Championships.

It is the first time Chalmers has qualified for the Dolphins - Australia's senior swimming team - after finishing fourth in the men's 100 metres final in Sydney on Tuesday behind national stars Cameron McEvoy, James Magnussen and Tommaso D'Orsogna.

On Monday, he finished second by McEvoy and ahead of Magnussen.

Chalmers has twice bested his own Australian 16-year-old age record for the swim; setting a brand new benchmark in Tuesday night's final.

Last year he smashed Ian Thorpe's 15-year-old age record.

Kyle's father Brett played for Port Adelaide over a decade, including 25 AFL games in 1998 and 1999. He was a member of Port Adelaide's 1992, 1994, 1998 and 1999 SANFL premiership teams, and went on to hold assistant coaching roles for the club's League sides before being made a club life member in 2013.
