ROUND two wasn’t what we had hoped for on the scoreboard, but there was certainly some things to be happy about from an AFL Fantasy point of view.
Our star from last week Brad Ebert was a little quieter but he still hit the 100 mark which is exactly what we expect from him. So if he can keep doing this we can’t be unhappy. Our big scorer this week was an unlikely source! Jasper Pittard had 128 points, this may have had something to do with the amount of ball that was in our backlines (not something we as Power fans want to see). Nonetheless Jasper certainly made the most of it. However, I am not sure that I would be rushing him into your team just yet. The 64 he scored against Fremantle is more what I would expect from him.
Robbie Gray was a little below par with 97, but against Sydney I will give him a pass. Boaky was tagged again and ended up with only 61 points this wouldn’t have impressed his owners, but as with Robbie I am confident he will bounce back and raise that average.
Just one thing on low scores, don’t always be quick to panic if one of your premiums have a poor day. This will happen from time to time. Just remember that everyone will have a down day at some stage and you have to take the huge scores with the poor ones. An example of this was Richmond’s Dustin Martin. In round one he scored only 53 yet in round two he came out with the 114 which is more of what we expected from him. Hence the strategy to hold your premiums until they have a few poor scores in a row or a change in role.
We have other bigger concerns after round two. It has now been revealed that Gary Ablett Jnr is now out for this week for an undetermined amount of time. To me this means trade! The nice thing about Gary is that he is still fairly expensive which means you can go to almost anyone as he is worth $603,000. My recommendations would be Nat Fyfe, Michael Barlow, Dyson Heppell or Josh P Kennedy. All of these guys have had a great start to the season and should be an asset to your team.
The other trades that you should be looking at this week are more correction trades with your rookies. If you don’t have guys like Kamdyn McIntosh, Adam Saad or Adam Oxley then you should be bringing them in. Always keep in mind your strategies when you are trading. You should always be looking at the end game of having 22 premium players on your field, not just jumping to the next big thing.
In the lead up to lockout before the Friday night game between St Kilda and Collingwood something to look out for will be whether or not Scott Pendlebury is named. He has had some injury concerns and is a chance to be a late withdrawal even if he has been named. This is a handy reminder that you should always be checking out the social media on a Friday afternoon for any late outs or team changes, that is how we found out about Jimmy Bartel being out last week.
Anyway, best of luck with your teams this week. You can find me on twitter @pkd73 if you have any questions and let’s hope that the Power can get the win over the Kangaroos this weekend!
