Former Carlton and Adelaide midfielder Darren Pfeiffer joined Port Adelaide training as the Power returned to traditional pre-season work after the NZ camp.
Pfeiffer took part in a skills session at Alberton Oval on Monday, along with Justin Hoskin and Luke Wilson who were also added to the Power’s train-on list from Port Adelaide’s SANFL teams.
The trio have joined former North Melbourne midfielder Ed Lower, who has been trying out at Alberton since late November.
Port Adelaide general manager of football, Peter Rohde, said the club invited the four players to join in pre-season.
“Just so we can get a look at them up close and understand a bit more about their personalities and what makes them tick,” Rohde told PortAdelaideFC.com.au.
“The main thing is to get to know them at close quarters rather than from a distance.
“They get to train with our players so we get a decent comparison of their abilities and potential.”
Pfeiffer is pushing for a place with his third AFL team, having been drafted by Adelaide ahead of the 2006 season and then playing with Carlton between 2008 and 2009.
The 24-year-old played with Southport in Queensland in 2010, before returning to his original club Norwood in 2011.
Lower, 24, is a twin brother of former Power player Nick. Ed played more than 40 games with the Kangaroos after being drafted in 2006. He was delisted at the end of 2011 after undergoing knee surgery earlier in the year.
Hoskin played 14 league games with the Magpies after debuting in 2011 and was named the club’s best first year player. The 20-year-old is a home-grown talent, having been developed through Port Adelaide’s Metropolitan Football Academy after being recruited from Golden Grove.
17-year-old Luke Wilson was part of the Magpies’ premiership-winning under-18 side in 2011.
The players will take part in selected sessions ahead of the AFL pre-season and rookie drafts on Tuesday 13 December.
Port Adelaide returned from its five-day adventure camp near Christchurch on Saturday.
