Player of the week
Aaron Young
Youngy was not clean early with first possession at stoppage, but clearly had a outstanding clearance game post quarter time with 13 clearances. He tested tackles thrown at him, broke away from the contest and was able to convert his wins at clearance into inside 50 marks. Our best player on the night.
Power player reviews
Sam Gray
Sammy played with real speed and intensity and kept us in the game during the first half. He was hard for Norwood to defend against and was very good in using his work rate to get to contest after contest. He’s doing everything we’re asking of him right now and has really improved the way he uses his speed defensively.
Brent Renouf
Brent had a tale of two halves. There was little impact in the first two quarters but after that he was outstanding around stoppages and gave our midfielders great opportunity. The key for him is to produce his best effort across four quarters and impact around the ground.
Kane Mitchell
Kane struggled a little on the inside this week and couldn’t get outside as well to use his good running game. We’d like to see him win more of his own ball and hurt the opposition with disposal - it’s an area he’s working on.
Karl Amon
Karl couldn’t impact the game the way he wanted to across the night. He showed commitment to winning the contested ball at times, but needs to develop consistency in this area over four quarters.
Mitch Harvey
It was good to see Mitch compete really well this week - he gave plenty of leads up forward and took three marks inside 50. Unfortunately his conversion was amiss, but it’s good to see him being competitive in the air. Now the task is for him to produce consistently high efforts offensively and defensively week-to-week.
Brendon Ah Chee
Arch had seven tackles but lacked the attack on the game we require from him. That’s his challenge going forward as he can only develop into a strong midfielder by playing League footy.
Cam Hitchcock
Hitchy struggled a bit this week after strong trial game performances and was down on his contested ball work which he is working hard to become better at. Offensively he gave us some real energy. Hopefully he recaptures that contested form this week against his Glenelg.
Jake Neade
Neade didn’t have his normal pressure and tackle game, and that’s something he needs to be producing as a small forward for us. He looked OK when playing further up ground on the wing and managed to kick a nice goal from an elite crumb inside 50.
Paul Stewart
It was Stewart’s first game for the year at SANFL level after missing with injury. He still had 17 disposals for us, but needs to get going over the next few games and up his intensity around the ground.
Tom Logan
Tommy was solid on Phillips early, and was then forced to go on-ball to help us start to win at stoppage. He’s really pressing hard with his form but the competition for spots in defence is really high, so he just needs to keep producing his best form week after week.
Cam O’Shea
Cam defended his opponent well but unfortunately he did not hurt the opposition with his disposal on a couple of occasions. However he did looked confident in contests and at ground level - we just want to see him being really efficient and run with the footy.
Tom Clurey
Tom’s ball use was OK down back but he wasn’t able to really pressure and dominate his opponent. He needs to dictate to his opponent more often and wasn’t able to impact in the way he’s capable of. This week is a perfect opportunity for him to find his form against his old SANFL side.
Sam Colquhoun
Ran hard to create opportunities around the ground but didn’t capitalise on chances to hurt the opposition from our turnover pressure. Sam needs to identify the first option better, but he ran hard and tried to take the game on. If he can improve his kicking efficiency then he’ll really start joining that competition for a spot down back.
Darcy Byrne-Jones
It was a solid game from Darcy. He stood up well against Norwood’s pressure and had the confidence to run and attack with the footy. His decision-making and disposal is starting to hurt the opposition and it was, overall, another positive performance from the young guy.
