DOMENIC Cassisi’s goal with only secondsremaining to win the match against Geelongon Sunday has earned him a Toyota AFL Goal of the Year nomination.

The home fans thought Gary Ablett’s goal inthe dying moments has secured their 16th win on the trot at SkilledStadium, but Cassisi snatched victory with his sensational six-pointer withonly seconds remaining.

In 2007, the winners of the Toyota AFL Markand Goal of the Year awards will each receive:

  • $5000 for their grassroots Club, alsopresented by Toyota.
  • The use of a Toyota Kluger CV for 12months.
  • A crystal replica of the official,perpetual Toyota AFL Mark of the Year and Toyota AFL Goal of the Year trophies,presented by the AFL and Toyota.
  • The Alex Jesaulenko Medal (mark) and PhilManassa Medal (goal), presented by Toyota.

At the end of the 22-round Toyota AFLPremiership season, the AFL All-Australian Selection Committee will decide theoverall winner from the 22 weekly winners.

The awards will be the presented during2007 Toyota AFL Grand Final week.

The Power’s Daniel Motlop was also integralin securing the points for his side in one of the games of the season against Geelong on Sunday.

Motlop was relentless when he applied astrong tackle on Geelong’s Tom Harley, then quickly recovered to effect adesperate smother on a Josh Hunt kick in the final quarter.  
His key effort in the five-point victoryhas earned a nomination for the AFL Army Award.

New to the 2007 season, the Army Award aimsto recognise and reward the one-percent style acts such as game breakingsmothers, tackles and shepherds.

At the end of the home-and-away season, theAFL All-Australian Selection Committee will shortlist the 22 weekly winningacts to six nominations which will then be voted on by the public via afl.com.au.

The All-Australian selection committee willthen endorse the winner.

In2007, the AFL Army Award winner will receive a $10,000 Army Experience. Theaward will be officially presented at the 2007 Coca-Cola All-Australianpresentation dinner.
