PORT ADELAIDE plays St Kilda in Shanghai in Round 10, but the club will keep its preparation for the game as familiar as possible.
Senior coach Ken Hinkley says the experience of playing the international fixture previously means the club knows what to expect in the lead up.
“We have just kept things pretty normal,” Hinkley told SEN SA’s Breakfast program.
“We’ve been there the last two years. We are pretty familiar with what it takes to go over there and play.
“We are prepared for everything. We are in pretty good shape. Our conditioning team believe we have prepared really well for the game.
“The knowledge of having done it and been there gives us some comfort.”
The side departs on Tuesday evening, and Hinkley says it will be a normal week despite the game being played on Chinese soil.
“We get over to Shanghai tomorrow lunch time,” Hinkley said.
“We get to the hotel and settle in for the day, and then we will follow a pretty normal week.
“We will train on Thursday. We will do our gym and bits and pieces. We will have our line meetings and coaches’ meetings right through the rest of the week as normal.
“Nothing much changes while we are over there. We know the environment. We know the hotel we stay in and we are pretty familiar with everything that is around us.”
There are some question marks on a few players, but Hinkley expects Ryan Burton, Scott Lycett, Tom Rockliff and Hamish Hartlett will all be on the flight to Shanghai.
“We will confirm a bit better after today,” he said.
“There will be a little bit of stuff done today and we expect Ryan (Burton) to be okay.
“We expect Scott Lycett to be okay from the last week where he just missed.
“Rocky is the one - we got a bit of a (good) surprise yesterday with his scan. He ran yesterday, so at this stage he will be on the plane. We will get over there and test him out once we get there.
“Hamish (Hartlett) is one of the travelling party - not sure that we will pick Hamish this week but it’s good to have him ready and available whilst we are over there in case something else goes wrong.”
The senior coach admitted Robbie Gray has had his struggles with various knocks to the body so far this year, but expects him to build his form as the season progresses.
“He’s been banged up, there’s no doubt about that, he’s been well and truly banged up,” Hinkley said.
“He pulled up pretty well to be honest, and he will be better for the run.
“He copped another whack on that shoulder, which is always the way when you’re recovering from one.
“He’s in way better shape, I’ll say, than four weeks ago. It’s pretty positive from that point of view and we expect Robbie will continue to build his season from here.”
The Power faces the Saints at Adelaide Arena at Jiangwan Stadium on Sunday, with the first bounce at 1.50pm ACST.
