It has put together the Optimistic Kids program and aimed it towards helping young people to focus on positive thinking, positive mental health and on being resilient.
The program will implement strategies to help them in their lives by identifying their own strengths and helping them to overcome obstacles stopping them from getting to where they want to be.
The club will team together to share their experiences with different young people and talk about how important it has been for them to be resilience whilst in the AFL system.
The first part of the program involves members of the club going out to schools to talk to the students and help them with the issues that they’re facing.
The second and final part will have students go on a tour of Alberton Oval, the home of the Port Adelaide Football Club.
There are a number of similarities between the struggles of young people and that of the players.
They’re both having to push past education struggles, career aspirations, managing both their time and priorities as well as dealing with peer pressure and a variety of antisocial behaviours.
The program will help to enforce that believing in yourself and identifying your strengths are key to getting through tough times.
The winner of the grant will be decided by a public vote so ultimately, the decision comes down to you.
The club is always striving to further its involvement in the wider community but it needs your help to do it.
