PORT Adelaide is hopeful of landing Carlton's Andrew Walker after meeting with the defender before he jetted out for an overseas holiday earlier this week.

Power football manager Peter Rohde said while talks were yet to progress significantly, his club had spoken with the 24-year-old who was keen to join Matthew Primus' side should the opportunity present.

"He's overseas at the moment but obviously we're going through the doctors to get the medical report on him," Rohde said.

"We'll sit down tomorrow and discuss the whole thing, but I think there's a chance it'll happen."

Rohde said there was still a "long way to go" before any potential deal may be reached, with the Power yet to engage in serious discussions with Carlton.

Walker is among four Carlton players - joining Sam Jacobs, Shaun Grigg and Bret Thornton - who have expressed an interest in finding a new home.

The rebounding defender had been linked to Adelaide, although they have all but dropped out of the race after securing Richard Tambling earlier in trade week. The Western Bulldogs are another club who have expressed an interest.

Port Adelaide forward Daniel Motlop is one player who has expressed a desire to be traded, although Rohde was unsure if he could become part of any deal involving Walker.

Although Rohde did say that should his club find a suitable trade for Motlop, the contracted goalkicker was more likely to find himself at a Victorian club than in Western Australia - refuting suggestions Motlop was hell-bent on getting to WA.

"His brother (Geelong's Steven) and his family are in Victoria. I'm not sure where the whole WA bit came from, but people seem to keep quoting it," he said.

"I think if he's going to end up anywhere, he's much more likely to end up in Victoria."

The Power footy boss also dismissed claims his club would axe Motlop should it fail to find a trade for the forward.

"He's a required player, he's contracted and required," Rohde said.

"There's no way we'll be axing him."
