PORT Adelaide has appointed two new Power Ambassadors, with Packed to the Rafters star Hugh Sheridan and City Homicide’s Damien Richardson stepping up to promote the club.

Both Hugh, who plays Ben Rafter in the hit Seven Network series and Damien, who plays Detective Matt Ryan, are long-time Power fans.

Hugh has told PortAdelaideFC.com.au of his love for the club.

“My Popa first barracked for South Adelaide until he went to his first South v Port Adelaide game in the 1930’s, when he was so impressed by the play of Port he decided that was the team for him,” Hugh wrote to us.

“He worked and lived in the Port and raised his family to barrack for the same team.

“Some of my earliest memories are at Alberton with Popa, in my Magpies scarf and with my ‘Carn the Maggies!’ badge. He has a paver stone at Alberton with his name and ‘1997’ on it.

“I'm one of seven kids and we’re all Port Adelaide supporters, particularly my 14 year old brother Zachary who is a mad fan. He travels interstate for matches and is a walking Port encyclopedia. From the time the Power entered the AFL mum used to take Zach and me every week.

“I loved heading out to 'Footy Park' taking the rugs and yelling non-stop for 2 hours every weekend and being part of a very important community of people, The Port Adelaide Footy Club!

“I think the only person more excited about me being made an Ambassador of the PAFC is my little bro. He calls everyday with news about the club and to talk about the team.”

Hugh and Damien both met Power coach Mark Williams and chief executive Mark Haysman at a Channel 7 season launch earlier in the year.
