Concentration was centered on the father-son and academy bidding process, while as expected Demon James Frawley officially became a Hawk.
But late on Monday night it emerged Sydney Swans free agent Nick Malceski had taken up an offer to join Gold Coast on a three-year contract.
The Malceski deal wasn't the only piece of news on Monday night, with Richmond reportedly keen for Essendon's Jason Winderlich to continue his career with the Tigers.
Power won’t trade a star
Port Adelaide and Essendon continue to negotiate a deal for Paddy Ryder, but any deal won’t involve young Power stars Hamish Hartlett, Chad Wingard or Ollie Wines.
Port Adelaide list manager said those young stars are part of the future of the club.
“Our offer is our first draft pick (No. 17) and will not be discussing any top bracket players,” Cripps said.
“We categorically won’t be talking about any players in that bracket (of Hartlett, Wines and Wingard).
“We’re trying to accommodate Essendon’s desire for a comparable player in return for Paddy. We’ve engaged other clubs, but there’s still plenty of work to be done.”
Redden and Aish in Pies' sights
Collingwood is eyeing off Brisbane Lions midfielders Jack Redden or James Aish as it tries to complete the Dayne Beams deal.
The Magpies have given the Lions a Friday deadline to sew up the trade and are refusing to budge on their request of a quality senior player in addition to pick No. 4 for Beams.
Collingwood has asked for Redden, Aish, Sam Mayes, Pearce Hanley or Dayne Zorko in exchange for Beams, the Herald Sun reports.
Redden has been a key element of the Lions' midfield since being drafted with pick No. 25 in the 2008 NAB AFL Draft, but may be used to secure the Beams deal.
The Magpies are also confident of snaring out-of-contract North Melbourne midfielder Levi Greenwood, according to the Herald Sun.
Greenwood, who has the Kangaroos, Western Bulldogs and the Magpies all chasing him, could make his decision as early as Tuesday.
Kavanagh on the move?
The Age reports that third-year midfielder Elliott Kavanagh has told the Bombers he may explore other options.
Kavanagh played three matches in 2014, taking his total to seven after being Essendon's first pick, taken at No.19 in the 2011 NAB AFL Draft.
The Age also reported that the Bombers hoped to sign a deal with tough onballer Ben Howlett, who is out of contract and has reportedly been nibbled at by Carlton. Fremantle denied on Monday that it had spoken to Howlett's management.
