FORMER Collingwood defender Tyson Goldsack is excited to be unveiled as Port Adelaide’s SANFL leadership player heading into the 2020 season.
Goldsack - who played 165 for the Magpies in the AFL - will combine a playing role in the SANFL with a development coaching role with the AFL squad.
“It’s a two-pronged role,” Goldsack told portadelaidefc.com.au.
“There is a development coach role with the defenders - helping out with Monty (Brett Montgomery).
“And playing for the Magpies. It’s a leadership player role for the Magpies.
“I’m excited to pull the boots back on and get out there for the ‘black and white’ still, which is nice.
“This role came up and it’s a great opportunity to combine coaching elements with the guys I’m coaching mid-week, on game day.”
The 32-year-old admitted to a few nerves as he entered Alberton Oval for the first time, but said everyone at the club was very welcoming.
“I’m excited,” Goldsack said.
“I was nervous coming in for day one yesterday, but it’s great. The club has been great and have welcomed me with open arms.
“It’s good to be here.”
Goldsack said he was excited to put on the Prison Bar guernsey next season, and share the passion for it as much as the Port Adelaide members and supporters.
“I think it’s great that the passion is there,” he said.
“At Collingwood, we had the passion for the black and white stripes, and if you lose that then I think you lose a little bit of your culture and your history.
“The fact that the Port Adelaide Magpies have held onto that so tightly and have such a continued desire to wear it, I think is great.
“They should continue to, and I look forward to putting it on.”
