A PHOTO DRIVE aimed at finding images of hundreds of men who have had the honour of representing the Port Adelaide Football Club at league level has had some success with the number of missing images now below 450.
The Port Adelaide Football Club History Committee has been working tirelessly to verify the accuracy of the club’s player records and is continuing to carry out the mammoth task of ensuring there is at least one image of each player in the club’s collection.
In its 150th year in 2020, the club is aiming to release a limited-edition print featuring every player to have played at least one senior game for Port Adelaide.
Since an initial call-out for help in late September, another 94 photos of players have been confirmed.
Of the 1554 players verified to have played a senior league game for Port Adelaide since 1870, the History Committee now has photographs of 1131 of them.
Each and every player to wear the black and white, and silver and teal is just as important as the next and we want to recognise that with the biggest team photo you’ve ever seen.
With 423 photographs still outstanding, any photo of a player - be it a football image or a wedding photo - will help.
The passage of time has been the biggest challenge, with the bulk of the missing photos coming from the era between 1870 and 1920.
A list of the players whose photos are missing can be found at this link.
If you have any images you can supply, please email them through, along with some information about the person and year of the photo to history@pafc.com.au or you can call the club at 8447 9906.
