1. Port’s injury woes continue
Port Adelaide has been hit by a bad run on the injury front in the SANFL this year. Matthew Lobbe’s injury was another blow, especially after he dominated the ruck against Sturt with 27 hit-outs by midway through the second term. The extent of his injury will be determined by a scan on Monday.
2. Sturt's balance is a challenge for oppositions
Sturt's forward weren’t always on target - recording 18.15 – but were damaging both in the air and on the ground. The Double Blues were led by mid-sized Mark Evans who booted five goals; 195cm Henry Voight who kicked three in his third league game; and small forward Ben Hansen who also kicked three.
3. Senior Magpies need to stand up
Kane Mitchell returned from suspension with 31 disposals and Sam Colquhoun had 21, but the Magpies' usual ball-winners were down on their game. By half time, Mitchell led the disposal count with 13, but Summerton was the only other to finish the first half with at least 10 touches. By the game's competition, Sturt had 116 more disposals than the Magpies.
4. Half time melee spurs on Sturt
Sturt held a 30-point lead going into the main break, but words were exchanged and tempers flared as the half time siren sounded. Unfortunately, the fire showed by the Power was met and bested by Sturt in the third quarter. The Double Blues held the Magpies goalless until 17 minutes into the final term while scoring nine majors of their own.
