During the month of February, Power to be Positive program coordinator Will Northeast attended the Defence Community Organisation Official Welcome Day for 2020 held at the Adelaide Zoo.
This year the event saw over 2,500 people in attendance which included families who had been posted to Adelaide for the first time.
Northeast represented the club and made attendees aware of the program the club facilitates to support children in Australian Defence Force (ADF) Families.
Port Adelaide staff ran kicking and handballing stations for children and enjoyed interacting with the families.
Flyers were given out inviting those at the Welcome Day to come along to the club’s annual ADF family event in the upcoming school holidays, which is expected to have 200 family members in attendance.
The family event is a great opportunity for families to get together and experience the facilities at the Port Adelaide Football Club as well as participate in a football clinic run by the AFL players. Following the event, the ADF All-Stars will be training on Alberton Oval in the lead up to their match against the Emergency Services, which is the curtain raiser for the ANZAC round match between Port Adelaide and the Western Bulldogs.
Power to be Positive is a wellbeing and resilience program facilitated by Port Adelaide Football Club (PAFC) players and staff to children with parents in the ADF.
The program is based on core wellbeing philosophies and practices used by the PAFC players. This includes Curriculum areas such as mindfulness, gratitude, fixed vs growth mindsets, values and goal-setting.
The program is linked with the South Australian School Curriculum: Wellbeing for Learning and Life framework, which focuses on supporting children and young people’s development.
The Power to be Positive program looks set to reach new heights this year with the introduction of a Leadership Event for High School students.
The program will commence on the 22nd of April with the annual Family Day held at Alberton Oval.
