Port Adelaide, in partnership with Channel Seven Adelaide, will tomorrow night premiere Onward to Victory, a documentary showcasing the incredible history of the club as it enters its 150th anniversary season.

Onward to Victory will screen on Channel Seven Adelaide at approx. 9.30pm (Adelaide time) directly after Port Adelaide opens its 2020 season against the Gold Coast Suns at Metricon Stadium. This game will also be broadcast live on Channel Seven Adelaide from 7.00pm.

The documentary will take viewers through the remarkable journey of Australia’s most successful football club. Onward to Victory explores the on-field highs as well as the off-field lows, including stories of tragedy as well as tales of hardship and ultimate sacrifice.

The documentary, produced in partnership with Adelaide film company 57 Films, interviewed more than 30 former and current champions of the game about their experience playing for or against Port Adelaide.

Among those interviewed were club champions Russell Ebert, John Cahill and Geof Motley, VFL/AFL legends Kevin Sheedy, David Parkin and Malcolm Blight, along with media luminaries such as Mike Sheahan and Bruce McAvaney.

Port Adelaide GM – Media and Communications and Executive Producer of Onward to Victory Daniel Norton says the entire Port Adelaide family will connect with this documentary.

“The club has been working on this documentary for 10 months, travelling the breadth of South Australia and Australia to recount some of Port Adelaide’s greatest stories,” said Mr Norton.

“Storytelling is at the heart of everything we do at Port Adelaide. More, now than ever, we need to remind the football world and the entire Port Adelaide community how special our club really is. The story of Port Adelaide stands alongside the greatest stories in Australian football and this history needs to be preserved for current and future generations.

“All the club’s greatest stories are brought to life in this documentary and not only those from on the field. We shine a light on the lifeblood of our club – the Port Adelaide fans and community that have enabled our club to be what it is today.

“The title of the documentary, Onward to Victory, is appropriate for what it represents. Of course, it’s the rousing last line of Port Adelaide’s famous ‘Cheer, Cheer, the black and the white’ club song, but it equally represents the future of Port Adelaide, as much as the past. This club will be marching forward for the next 150 years, Onward to Victory.

“This documentary trascends the Port Adelaide community. It will appeal to a broader audience as it highlights how sporting clubs can unite communities and give people hope in the most challenging of times.”

Channel Seven Adelaide General Manager Andy Kay says, “As someone who spent his childhood in Largs Bay and his career watching the club evolve from local hero to national powerhouse and everything in between, I think the public will marvel at the significance of this story and where it sits in our sporting folklore.”

Onward to Victory will be available for viewing on Port Adelaide’s digital media platforms after the documentary has been screened on Channel Seven Adelaide.
