FOR the fourth time this season, Daniel Stewart has won the Cibo Glenelg SANFL Player of the Week Award, dominating up forward for North in the Elimination Final against the Eagles.

Stewart had teammate Paul Stewart matched up on him early, but his height proved too much and proceeded to dominate the second quarter taking six marks on a second opponent. It was a shootout between two young Power forwards, with Nick Salter going one better than the North forward, inspiring the Eagles to victory with five goals himself.

The award is judged by Power development coaches, Darren Trevena and Stuart Cochrane, and is announced exclusively at PortAdelaideFC.com.au each week.

The full wrap is below.

Cibo Glenelg SANFL Player of the Week
Daniel Stewart (for North v Eagles @ Football Park)A very good game playing up forward. He led up and presented well, taking some very strong grabs and looking very lively inside the forward 50. He provided a good option for the Roosters and finished with 14 kicks, 3 handballs, 12 marks and 4.2. His speed on the lead was impressive and it was great to see him step up in a big game like that. Unfortunately with North going down, that’s the end of his season. It was a good way to finish the year and it puts him in good stead for a big pre-season.

Nick Salter (for Eagles v North @ Football Park)Salts looked good as the Eagles most potent forward option. He booted five goals – some set shots, some on the run and some crumbing and snapping. It was good to see him get his goals in a variety of ways including the clincher in the final minutes of the game. Finished with 11 kicks, 5 handballs, 4 marks and 5.2. He’ll be an important part of the Eagles’ finals campaign.

Paul Stewart (for Eagles v North @ Football Park)Started off on Daniel Stewart, whose height caused him some problems, conceding a couple of goals. But he bounced back well to get involved in the game. He needs to keep developing the defensive side of his game as he’s got a good attacking element. Stewie finished with 18 possessions and 3 tackles.

Matthew Broadbent (for Eagles v North @ Football Park)Broady started down back on Nick Gill and negated his influence well, especially at the ruck contest where he likes to jump as the third man up. His biggest impact came in the third quarter when he moved on the ball, helping steady the Eagles and turn the momentum back in their favour. He did his job well and had 10 kicks, 6 handballs, 3 marks and 4 clearances.

Jonathan Giles (for Central v Sturt @ Football Park)Joffa had limited time on the ground in the first half, but when he was used in the second half he had a good impact in the ruck and gave his midfielders first use of the ball. The highlight of the day no doubt came when he kicked the winning goal from 30 metres out on a reasonable angle in the dying seconds. 5 kicks, 2 marks, 3 handballs, 1 goal and 18 hitouts for the big man.

Matt Westhoff (for Central reserves v Sturt reserves @ Alberton)Matty’s first game back from injury, he played up forward in windy conditions at Alberton. He led up and took some good marks but struggled to stay involved in the play for extended periods, especially into the breeze. Finished with 8 kicks, 2 handballs and 3 marks.
