21 PLAYERS had kicked five or more goals in an AFL game for Port Adelaide, but never a teenager in his third game...until Saturday night.
Connor Rozee became the 22nd Power player to kick a “handful” against Brisbane at the Gabba, and the youngest at 19 years 74 days.
He bettered a record that stood for 21 years since Warren Tredrea, then aged 19 years 136 days, kicked eight goals in his seventh game in 1988.
Tredrea, though, was in his second season, having played one game in 1987.
The only other teenager to kick five goals in a game for Port was Shaun Burgoyne in 2002. He was 19 years 251 days when he kicked five goals in his sixth game.
John Butcher, aged 20 years 49 days, kicked five goals in his second game in 2011.
Butcher, Rozee, Shaun Burgoyne and Tredrea have been the only players to kick five or more inside their first 10 games.
Chad Wingard was only six days beyond his 20th birthday when he booted five goals for the first time, but it was in his 37th game.
Among players transferring to Port from another club, Jarrad Schofield bagged the quickest five-goal haul.
Back at Alberton this year as an assistant-coach, he did so in his debut in black, white and teal in 1999.
Scott Cummings, the leading goal-kicker in Port’s first season in the AFL in 1997, was the youngest import to kick five goals in a game, doing so in his third game for the club, while Charlie Dixon did so in his seventh game in 2016, and Jay Schulz kicked seven in his eighth game in 2010.
Rozee, Port’s leading goal-kicker after three rounds, is the 22nd player to kick five or more goals in a game for the Power.
