Port victorious in Sydney's west
Port Adelaide has beaten the GWS Giants to claim its sixth win of season 2013.
The 75-point victory also ended a streak of five losses for the Power.
It was an emphatic performance that saw Port open a significant lead by half time and cruise to the final siren - winning every quarter bar the last.
It all came down to the start for the Power, as the team proceeded to control the football early and convert three majors in quick succession through Justin Westhoff, Cameron O’Shea and John Butcher.
With ten inside 50s for eight scoring shots by the 22-minute mark of the opening term, the Power proved dominant, cleaner with the ball and efficient at prosecuting its opportunities.
With Travis Boak kicking his second goal from some strong defensive rebound before the quarter time siren, the Power was able to nurse the clock to hold a 34-point margin at the first change.
The Power opened the taps in the second quarter and extended a 58-point lead by the halfway mark of the term thanks to goals from Butcher, Chad Wingard, Tom Logan and Angus Monfries.
It put the game beyond doubt, thanks largely in part to the Power's pressure to effect turnovers in its favour which rewarded the team with plenty of scoring opportunities.
Despite a dominant display, Port's tired legs in the last quarter allowed the Giants to kick several late goals and close the final margin 75 points.
Fittingly, Cornes finished the game as the Power's leading disposal-winner with 34 touches for the match.
The Power has now eclipsed last year's five wins with its sixth victory for 2013 and will return home tonight ahead of next Saturday's Round 13 home match against the Sydney Swans at AAMI Stadium.
