MATT WHITE will not return to playing until at least Round 14, after scans confirmed a complete tear to his right pectoral muscle.

White suffered the injury during the first quarter of Port Adelaide’s 33-point win over St Kilda on Easter Sunday.

The injury will consign the 28-year-old to a sling for the first six weeks of rehabilitation following surgery and the Power’s high performance team will progress his recovery from there, says high performance manager Darren Burgess.

“It’s a complete rupture to the pectoral muscle, which for Whitey will mean he misses at least 12 weeks,” Burgess told portadelaidefc.com.au.

“It’s really disappointing for him, unfortunately the symptoms present similar irrespective of the severity of the injury, so we couldn’t confirm the detail until the scans.

“He’ll spend six weeks in a sling and then we’ll progress as required after that.”

White can be added to the Power’s long-term injury list, which would enable another rookie to be elevated to the senior playing group, however no decision on an upgrade has been made.

The club already allowed to upgrade two of its rookies as compensation for losing Paddy Ryder and Angus Monfries through a Court of Arbitration for Sport-imposed suspension.
