THE Port Adelaide Football Club is mourning the passing of long-time volunteer Murray Cooper.
The 82-year-old, known by many as “Soapy”, occupied a number of roles for many years with the club in the SANFL, earning himself life membership.
He took on the role of property steward with the Power side from the start of 1997 and was an important figure as the club won its inaugural AFL premiership in 2004.
Cooper worked with Port Adelaide until the end of the 2010 season, and was a highly regarded, well respected and much-loved character by everyone who came into contact with him during his time at the club.
Murray Cooper died peacefully on Saturday 29 December.
His loss will be felt by all at Port Adelaide, including players, coaches, administration and support staff.
The Port Adelaide Football Club sends its condolences to his wife Linda, his children Debra, Janice and Michael and the rest of his family and friends.
