Veteran defender Michael Wilson dominated for the Magpies in their win over North on Saturday to win the Cibo Glenelg SANFL Player of the Week award for Round 13.

Wilbur had 35 possessions in a typical hard and tough performance from the Power premiership player.

The award is judged by Power development coaches, Daniel Healy and Darren Trevena, and is announced exclusively at PortAdelaideFC.com.au each Monday afternoon.

It was a slightly quieter week in the SANFL for Power players due to a few injuries, but we still had 13 players in action for their local clubs…

Cibo Glenelg SANFL Player of the Week
Michael Wilson (for Port v North at Alberton)He was excellent on a half back flank. He came back with the right attitude and really directed traffic well. He was telling other blokes where to stand and encouraging them all the way and he also did some great running work himself. He had 35 possessions, 14 handball receives and 9 marks. His toughness was great, which is what we expect from Wilbur. He just needs to string a couple of good games together now, but we’ve got no doubt he’ll do that..

Jacob Surjan (for Port v North at Alberton)Played half forward and on-ball. He did a lot of hard work early in the game for little reward. Ended up with 11 kicks, 2 marks, 9 handballs and 1 goal. Overall, he did some tough stuff, but we expect just a little bit more of him now given he’s playing on the ball.

Nathan Krakouer (for Port v North at Alberton)Started off quite well with a good first half before they moved him deep into the forward line where he struggled a bit. He had 14 kicks, 3 marks, 6 handballs and 1 goal. His kicking inside 50 was excellent again; it’s a real feature of his game and he proved that again on the weekend. Unfortunately, in the last quarter he did a hamstring running into goal and will be out for about a month.

Gavin Grose (for North v Port at Alberton)Played at full forward for the first half but a groin injury sustained in the second quarter restricted his influence on the game. He’ll be out for a couple of weeks.

Jonathon Giles (for Central v Eagles at Woodville)Not a big game. He took a couple of good marks in the back play. He had 9 possessions and 13 hitouts.

Ryan Williams (for Central v Eagles at Woodville)Half back and on-ball. He had 17 possessions and was solid without being spectacular. He’s still running very hard and has been doing some great life and death acts. Just needs to continue to work on his decision making.

Nick Salter (for Eagles v Central at Woodville)Really came to play. He presented well and demanded that the team kick to him. Had some great contested marks and finished with 16 kicks, 8 marks, 3 handballs and 4 goals. He took 8 marks but was also at another 10 marking contests, which is something we challenged him to do before the game.

Adam Cockshell (for Norwood v West at Norwood)Had a really good game at centre half forward and in the ruck. Had a great presence and moved well. Took some nice contested marks and kicked well for goal. He had 15 possessions, 7 marks and 3 goals. He’s just has to work on consistency so he can produce that week in, week out.

Ryan Willits (for West v Norwood at Norwood)Started up forward and then went back. Not a big game with 2 marks and 11 possessions.

Mitch Farmer (for Sturt v Glenelg at Glenelg)He’s coming back quite nicely. He’s playing good tough and hard footy and getting plenty of telling possessions. He had 9 kicks, 4 marks and 11 handballs, so he’ll be pushing for selection over the next few weeks. He’s had a bit of an injury but his fitness is back where it needs to be.

Matt Lobbe (for Port reserves v North reserves at Alberton)His first game back after breaking a finger. He rucked the whole game and played quite well. He moved around the ground nicely and moved back into the hole to take some good marks. 11 kicks, 7 marks and 7 handballs as well as 18 hitouts. Overall, a pretty good performance.

Matt Westhoff (for Central reserves v Eagles reserves at Woodville) – Made his comeback from injury and played really well. He had 10 kicks, 8 marks, 4 handballs and 5 goals. It was a very pleasing return from injury.

Daniel Boyle (for Central reserves v Eagles reserves at Woodville)Second game back and had a much better game accountability wise. He was more physical and more aware of what his opponent was doing, which was a goal going into the game. He had 17 possessions in a pretty good game.
