THE latest episode of MG Moments features former Port Adelaide star Craig Bradley reminiscing over a famous moment of true Port Adelaide spirit and never giving up.
In 1983, Port travelled to Prospect Oval to face North Adelaide and things looked grim for the men from Alberton, down 43 points late in the third quarter.
“I remember that day because we played shocking for three quarters,” Bradley recalled.
However, Port refused to lay down and with Bradley heavily involved in the play steadily pegged the margin back.
“That’s the Port Adelaide ethos,” Bradley explained.
“I’m sure all teams are the same, all clubs are the same – you don’t give up.
“But Port Adelaide really mean it.”
The result of this will and determination at Prospect was an unlikely eight-point victory, as Russell Ebert’s men piled on 7.4 to a solitary behind in the final frame.
“I know when I was (at Alberton), it was full on,” Bradley said.
“Port were there to win and compete hard.
“It’s just a great place.”
Bradley would depart for Carlton in 1986, but he fondly remembers his time at Alberton and most importantly that Port Adelaide people never, ever give up.
