FAST FOOTY will kick-off with a bang on Friday evening when Port Adelaide face Woodville West Torrens in the inaugural game of SANFL’s modified version of Australian Rules.
The nine-team (CDFC not competing) competition will be played at Norwood Oval on Friday, February 9 and Saturday, February 10, with each team playing two group games.
Magpies Senior Coach Matthew Lokan says the modified version of the game allows the coaching staff to see players under immense pressure.
“We are really excited by the new format,” Lokan told portadelaidefc.com.au
“It’s going to be really attacking. There won’t be much of a defensive game-plan. And only having four 10-minute quarters means it will be really fast-paced.
“It’s a really good opportunity for us to be able to see some of our younger players who are new to our program.”
Lokan says while it is only a pre-season competition, his team will be out to win every game they play.
“It’s a new competition but we expect to win, that’s the Port Adelaide way,” he said.
“Our boys are looking forward to having their first competitive hit-out for the year.”
“We have added 24 new players to our system, this will be a great opportunity for them to impress leading into Round 1.”
