PORT Adelaide has succumbed to a second half blitz by Woodville-West Torrens at Alberton Oval on Saturday afternoon.

Eventually going down by 17 points, the Magpies led by just over three goals at half time in a low-scoring arm-wrestle, and the home side's defiant defence was able to hold the Eagles to just one goal in the first half.

Despite the first goal of the third term going to the visitors, some hard running and attack on the ball from speedster Jake Neade set up a goal to skipper Steve Summerton, giving the Magpies a 20-point buffer.

Port Adelaide looked poised to continue its ascendency, with big man Jarrad Redden dominating the hit-outs and Paul Stewart, Summerton and Tom Logan frustrating the Eagles' defence.

But the visitors slowly began to sneak their way back into the game and it didn’t take long for the match to change course.

The Eagles heaped numbers behind the ball, choking the Magpies’ free-flowing game and forcing them to slow their tempo.

Rampant in attack, the Eagles midfielders were led by Jared Petrenko who provided a spark around the stoppages.

Andrew Ainger and Nick Hayes stole the show up forward for the determined visitors who kicked four unanswered goals to take a five-point lead at the final break.

Summerton, Stewart, Ah Chee and Logan all worked hard and attempted to swing the momentum back the other way, but the Eagles' pressure and ability to win the hard ball proved too tough for the Magpies to handle.

The Magpies could only produce one goal in the final quarter to first-gamer Jack Haarsma, and were wasteful with their chances up forward midway through the quarter when the game hung in the balance.

Port Adelaide will look to get its season back on track at Alberton Oval next Saturday against Sturt following consecutive losses.

Earlier, Port Adelaide's Academy side lost to the Eagles Reserves by 101 points.

The undefeated Eagles ran riot in the third term, booting five goals to Port Adelaide's two, giving the visitors a 43-point lead at the final break.

Port Adelaide's youngsters could not match the Eagles' big-bodied midfielders who gave their forwards ample supply.

The Eagles then booted nine unanswered goals, sealing the win.

Academy coach Mark Clayton was pleased with his side's efforts in the first quarter, but was disappointed they were unable to hold on.

"I was actually really happy with our first quarter, they were only a few points in front because they kicked a few late and our pressure was really good," Clayton said.

"It was disappointing we weren't able to keep that pressure up for the first four quarters and we turned the ball over and they were able to rebound which cost us in the end."
