Boak: Contested ball a focus
Travis Boak is concerned at recurring themes in the Power's game over recent weeks
"It's disappointing, probably because of the position we were in, we were sitting on top and to let that slip hurts a bit," Boak staid on Monday.
"But we can't focus on ladder position. We have just got to worry about how we're playing as a group and right now there is a lot we can improve on."
The Power have lost four of their past five matches, including the last three straight, ahead of Sunday's home fixture against Melbourne.
Forward Robbie Gray is expected to push for selection despite suffering concussion in the defeat to Richmond on Sunday, which Boak said was similar to Port's other losses.
"It hasn't been the greatest last three weeks, we certainly have let games slip and there have been times in games where it has been disappointing," Boak said.
"But the wheels are certainly not falling off at all.
"There's areas in our game that we need to keep working on."
Winning more contested possessions and eliminating skill errors were high priorities, he said.
"We will tinker with a few little things and make sure we get our contested ball right because that is going to be the key to our game," he said.
"And we want to continue to be brave. We have just got to make sure we minimise those risks. On the weekend there were a few too many turnovers."
Boak dismissed fatigue as an issue for Port, who have a demanding run into the finals with games to come against Collingwood, Sydney, Gold Coast, Carlton and Fremantle.
"If you look at our GPS numbers, which is pretty much all you can go by, there is certainly no drop off at all," Boak said.
"Fatigue is a bit of an excuse and is certainly not one we're looking for. We think we're still a very fit side and have got a lot left in the tank."
