DESPITE battling illness on Sunday, Port Adelaide should push through to full health and a strengthened lineup in time for Saturday night’s blockbuster encounter with Sydney at the Adelaide Oval.
Jackson Trengove is likely to play the Swans after being listed for assessment, but will still need to be cleared at training leading up to selection.
His return will be a welcome one following the inclusion of Alipate Carlile in the Power’s back six on Sunday.
“We always had Jackson for a return around Round 20, obviously that’s this weekend, but we need to make sure he’s absolutely ready to go,” head of high performance Darren Burgess told portadelaidefc.com.au.
“He’s usually a very good rehab player, so we’re confident he’ll be right to go this weekend.”
Matt White will also be assessed to return from a groin injury, however Burgess conceded the fast-runner will be touch-and-go for Saturday’s game.
“Matty might be OK for the Swans, but we’ll have to see how he goes on the track during the week,” Burgess said.
“Clearly we don’t want to risk bringing him back too early, so we’ll have to wait and see on that one.”
Aaron Young is likely to be made available for either the Gold Coast or Carlton games after suffering a minor foot injury last week.
Port Adelaide had no further confirmation on the diagnosis of the hospitalised Jarrad Redden on Monday morning, while John Butcher continues to be monitored after being confirmed with viral meningitis over the weekend.
Darcy-Byrne Jones, Cameron Hitchcock and Tom Clurey will all be available to take on Central District in the SANFL this Saturday afternoon.
