Jake Johansen, a senior contracted Magpies player, was captain of the side and went on to be named in the Under-18 All-Australian team for 2014.
He was joined in the state tri-colours by fellow underage Magpies Keenan Ramsey, Declan Hamilton, Brad Coulson and Luke Partington.
The five played in SA’s nine-point triumph over Vic Metro at Simonds Stadium in Geelong on Thursday.
It’s an incredible outcome for both the state and its junior football development as well as a testament to Port Adelaide’s junior development programs led by Talent Manager and former Magpies captain Mark Clayton, and Academy coach Jacob Surjan.
“It is a credit to Jake, Keenan, Declan, Brad and Luke for the hard work they’ve put in to be part of this state success, and I congratulate them on their achievement on behalf of everyone at the club,” Port Adelaide CEO Keith Thomas told portadelaidefc.com.au.
“When you think about how much work it goes into producing a successful player at any level, for our club to have five talented young men in a championship-winning state under-18s team is something we are all immensely proud of.
“For South Australia to win this championship two years in a row just shows how strong football is in this state and Brenton Phillips has again done an excellent job training and coaching these boys.
“For Port Adelaide to have five of our players represent the state is a testament to the hard work of our metro junior development programs as well as the work done by many of our staff and volunteers in our country zone on the Eyre Peninsula.
“I think everyone associated with the club, including our supporters and members, will congratulate these guys on what they’ve achieved, and we’re looking forward to finishing off the year wearing the black and white.”
