Parkin appointed as Victorian Recruiting Officer
Port Adelaide has appointed the son of an AFL legend as its new recruiting officer for Victorian and Tasmanian underage competitions.
The son of legendary AFL premiership captain and coach David, Parkin will be responsible for identifying promising new talent in the TAC Cup and Tasmanian State League.
The 43-year-old has worked for eight years as Eastern Ranges' talent manager - a club which has proven a fertile recruiting ground for Port Adelaide with current stars Matthew Lobbe, Cameron O'Shea, Aaron Young and Andrew Moore all hailing from the Kilsyth-based club.
Previously a physical education teacher, Parkin told portadelaidefc.com.au he is looking forward to the opportunity to join Port Adelaide's successful recruiting program, which has produced four NAB AFL Rising Star nominees in the last four seasons.
"I'm really excited to be working for Port Adelaide," Parkin said.
"It's a club on the rise and I've been suitably impressed with the people in the recruiting department I've worked with.
"Guys like Geoff Parker [national recruiting manager], Chris Drain and Jason Cripps have been very professional in the dealings I've had with them over the years and I'm super excited to work with them and Port Adelaide."
Parkin brings a wealth of experience to Port Adelaide's recruiting team having also worked with AFL Victoria for three years prior to joining Eastern Ranges.
He will commence work for the Power in tandem with the start of the Victorian and Tasmanian talent competitions in the coming weeks.
"I'm really keen to get started in the next couple of weeks and building on the success the Power was able to generate last year."
