Selection: Big names into squad
Port Adelaide has made significant change to its first NAB Challenge squad for Tuesday night's final match against the Dons.
Included in the 29-man squad are captain Travis Boak, Matthew Lobbe and Chad Wingard – all removed from last week’s final team – as well as leadership players Brad Ebert, Hamish Hartlett, Robbie Gray and Tom Jonas. The experienced trio of Kane Cornes, Jay Schulz and Justin Westhoff also return to the side while John Butcher will be given the chance to push for Round 1 selection.
Mason Shaw, Sam Colquhoun, Mitch Harvey, Jake Neade, Darcy Byrne-Jones, Brendon Ah Chee, Tom Logan and Daniel Flynn will not play the Dons after lining up against the Crows.
The changes significantly strengthen the side that lost to Adelaide by 60 points last Sunday with all members of the leadership group barring the injured Jackson Trengove named in the squad.
It will be the first time former Geelong coach and now Essendon caretaker Mark Thompson has squared off against his Cats assistant and current Port Adelaide chief Ken Hinkley in the coaches’ box.
Port Adelaide flies to Melbourne on Monday ahead of the match, with the final squad to be confirmed at 5:40pm (AEDT) on portadelaidefc.com.au.
