The Port Adelaide Football Club Outer Army – a dedicated band of club members and supporters - has donated money raised through its 2012 activities to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

The Outer Army is known for its game day BBQ on the northern side of AAMI Stadium prior to Power home games, along with its colourful presence on the eastern wing during the club’s matches.

Money raised from the 2012 season was formally presented to QEH staff prior to Christmas.

Medical research scientist Kristin Carson thanked the Outer Army for its support and has confirmed that the funds will support respiratory medicine.

“One of our primary research projects relates to improving the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal Australians, particular related to tobacco use, smoking prevention and helping current smokers to quit,” Kristin said.

“The generous support and donation from the Port Adelaide Football Club Outer Army has allowed this project to commence, including a review of current evidence.

“We are now ready to perform a series of focus groups and one-on-one interviews with Aboriginal smokers, ex and non-smokers, healthcare workers, key community stakeholders, respiratory physicians and other medical consultants.”

The Outer Army also raises money through its annual Quiz Night which will be held at The Port Club (Queen St, Alberton) from 7.30pm on Friday 15 February 2013. For bookings, email outerarmy@thepowerfromport.com.au or call 0405 946 193.
