Gone is the long-standing NAB Cup where teams go head-to-head to play in a pre-season grand final.
Instead, the AFL is promoting an exciting '18 games in 18 days' format which will see clubs play two matches as part of a shortened pre-season format.
The Power will take on local rivals Adelaide in a Sunday afternoon match at Richmond Oval, commencing at 4:10pm on February 16.
It will then travel to Etihad Stadium to play Essendon on the night of Tuesday February 25 at 7:10pm (EDT).
No final match will be played and there is unlikely to be any form of representative match played as part of the pre-season period.
The changes to the pre-season format come after a "comprehensive review" of the overall pre-season and premiership season fixture according to a statement from the AFL on Thursday.
The League's general manager of broadcasting, scheduling and major projects Simon Lethlean said the changes were made after consultation with the 18 clubs.
"The shortened format enables clubs to use their senior players as they see fit to prepare for the opening to the premiership season, as well as offering the flexibility to provide opportunities for new players and rookies that is such a key feature of the NAB Challenge," said Lethlean.
"As we introduced for the 2012 season, by having fixtured each club's matches for the NAB Challenge, clubs are aware of their travel schedule and can fully plan their preparation and training workload as they build up to the start of the premiership season."
Both matches will be broadcast on Foxtel.
