Hard day at the office for Power
Port Adelaide goes down to Geelong at AAMI Stadium.
The Cats ran out 48-point winners after completely dominating the first two quarters.
Although time in possession was relatively even for both sides at the start of the match, the Power constantly turned the ball over and put significant pressure on its backline.
As more numbers were pushed behind the ball to stem the flow of Cats goals, Port had its chances to impact the scoreboard, but with several set shots missed from long-range, including one out of bounds on the full, Port’s situation at the first break looked diabolical.
The second quarter started in similar fashion.
Goals to Geelong's Jordan Schroder and Tom Hawkins put the margin out to 53 points.
From there Chad Wingard sparked a small Port resurgence, with Jay Schulz kicking the Power’s first goal of the day almost ten minutes into the second term.
He was followed with goals to Jarrad Redden and Angus Monfries.
Wingard played one of his best games in Power colours, racking up 26 disposals, 8 marks and 5 inside 50s after tossing the coin to start the match for Indigenous Round.
But Geelong again responded and carried a 40-point lead in to the main break.
The second half started much as the first did, with Geelong stacking on the goals.
The Power kicked three consecutive behinds to bring the margin to 37 points, before the Cats punished Port’s inaccuracy with a three-goal response.
It snuffed out the Power’s hopes of a response with Matt Thomas the only goal kicker for the quarter.
Thomas scored again in the fourth term with Kane Mitchell following suit twice to close the margin to 53 points eleven minutes in, but the result was academic as Geelong secured a comfortable 48-point win.
