Port Adelaide launches Power to Perform summit
The Power to Perform summit brings together big names in sport and business in one room to discuss and develop best-practice high performance for business management.
To be held at the National Wine Centre on Tuesday 29 October, the Power to Perform Summit will feature world-renowned speakers who have achieved success in their respective fields through innovation, ingenuity and hard work.
The Summit will be headlined by Port Adelaide chairman and host of the Seven Network’s flagship morning show Sunrise, Mr David Koch. The acclaimed financial commentator began his career as a journalist with The Australian and BRW, before establishing a number of ventures including his own company Pinstripe Media Pty Ltd.
Since becoming the chairman of Port Adelaide, Mr Koch has helped reposition the club for a brave new world of professionalism and competitive success in the Australian Football League – the nation’s premier sporting entertainment competition – and has overseen the development of a dynamic football program that reached the 2013 AFL Semi Finals.
Mr Koch says the opportunity for business leaders to interact with and learn from a range of high-profile speakers is a rare and unprecedented opportunity for the Adelaide business community.
“This will be the best performance-based learning day you will ever experience,” says Mr Koch.
“High performance is what separates the best from the rest. Successful businesses have it, most aspire to it and the smart ones are prepared to arm themselves with the knowledge to achieve it.
“Leaders are often time-poor and are looking for powerful, inspirational, informative and relevant learning experiences they can immediately apply to their personal and professional situations.
“This summit will be from a personal and professional development perspective, arming participants with the knowledge to make and immediate impact on individuals and the organisation itself.
“I have never before had access to the great minds, educators and leaders to be presented at the Power to Perform Summit.”
Joining Mr Koch will be several keynote speakers presenting on a range of topics from crisis management to sports and business leadership as well as performance mindsets in both industries. They include:
Mr John Eales AM will present on Leadership in Sport and Business. Mr Eales has established himself as one of Australia’s foremost sports business consultants since leading the Wallabies to victory in the 1999 Rugby World Cup. Mr Eales currently mixes his time on the boards of several companies and as an occasional lecturer at Sydney’s University of Notre Dame.
Dr Ceri Evans will present on Performance Under Pressure, drawing from his expertise in the field of performance psychology. Dr Evans studied at Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar where he gained a first-class honours degree in Experimental Psychology after graduating from the University of Otago in New Zealand. He has worked closely with a number of sporting teams including the All Blacks who credit Evans as an instrumental figure in their 2011 Rugby World Cup triumph.
Mr Alan Richardson will present on Confronting the Brutal Facts and the Importance of Leadership. Having played Australian Football as a highest level during his 114-game career with the Collingwood Football Club, Mr Richardson is regarded as one of the best strategists and tactical minds in the modern-day AFL. Joining Port Adelaide after successful stints in development and senior assistant coaching roles at the Western Bulldogs, Collingwood, Essendon and Carlton football clubs, Richardson helped create the winning culture that saw the Power rise from fourteenth in 2012 to a semi finals appearance in 2013 with the third-youngest list in the AFL competition.
Mrs Jan Stirling AM will present on The Mindset of an Elite Athlete. With an enviable record of success coaching the Adelaide Lightning to four WNBL championships and 12 finals appearances, Mrs Stirling took over as Head Coach of the Australian Opals in 2001 and guided the team to the bronze medal in the 2002 World Championships, the silver medal at the 2004 Olympic Games and gold at the 2006 Commonwealth games and FIBA World Championships. Since stepping down as a full time basketball coach, Mrs Stirling has worked as a leadership and motivational consultant with Port Adelaide.
Mr Keith Thomas will present on Opportunity in Crisis Management. Having taken over as Port Adelaide’s chief executive officer following a successful career in commercial radio management, Mr Thomas has helped rebuild the Port Adelaide brand on the national stage. Having presided over the long-awaited restructure of Port Adelaide’s football program in addition to high-level negotiations with the club’s transition to the state-of-the-art Adelaide Oval from 2014, Mr Thomas has experience in the highs and lows of football. Speaking on crisis management, Mr Thomas will draw on his experience at the helm of the club during a one-month period in 2012 which saw the club restructure its coaching panel, board and experience the tragic passing of player John McCarthy.
