Sunday was a pretty special day for the Port Adelaide Football Club, and I think it said a lot about how we’re going about it at the moment.
Here’s what I loved about it ...
- Playing at 'the G', and winning!!
- 500 supporters at Fed Square to 'March to the G'. Loud, proud and united!
- Kenny Hinkley playing on the big screen at Fed Square all morning. The locals didn’t know what the hell was going on!
- Meeting the parents of our first gamers, and watching them fill with pride as their boys were handed their first jumper by a past legend of the club.
- Timmy Ginever’s rousing pre-match address to the playing group about what it means to represent Port Adelaide. (You can see it on the club website)
- Ollie’s first crunching tackle of D-Rod. Who'd have thought it'd be one of his first acts in a game that would ultimately earn him the Round 1 Rising Star Nomination.
- Jake’s airborne bear hug on Melbourne’s ruckman.
- Watching the team play to instruction and run the game out strongly.
- Having the guts to open up the club to an unprecedented level of media coverage on Foxtel.
- Kochie cheekily giving the game’s greatest player ever, the ‘bird’ on national TV!
- The way that our players went to the boundary and saluted our fantastic supporters on the ground after the match.
- 10,000 (well, almost) people crammed into the Harrison Room after the match, singing the club song with gusto!
- Ken Hinkley entering the room with security guards on both sides!! Come on Kenny, we’re all family here buddy!
- 2013 has just begun, but already we’re seeing what a difference it makes when we all chip in and work together.
The game becomes fun again!!
Well done everyone ... your support was unbelievable.
But we can’t stop here! We haven’t achieved anything yet!
