New players bond at annual training camp
Port Adelaide's 1-2 year playing group has undergone a training camp in the South Australian countryside ahead of the 2013 NAB Cup.
From Alberton to the Adelaide Hills and onto Waikerie, the 1-2 year playing group undertook a range of team building exercises designed to push their limits and overcome their fears.

With activities ranging from kayaking to attempted yabbie-catching on the Murray River, the Power’s youth brigade learned to work together to overcome the challenges set by the club’s development coaches.
Development manager Daniel Healy explained to portadelaidefc.com.au how the training camp serves the aims of the club’s coaching panel.
“Basically we got all these first and second year players who we hope will all play together for between five and ten years and we want to fast track their relationship to the building [the club] and relationship and trust in each other,” said Healy.
“We think that’s going to help their footy.
“It’s a good way to get the guys to relate to each other better and take them out of their comfort zone in a few exercises.
“We want to see how they act and react in different situations and also relate it back to their footy [environment] where they need to work together under pressure."
Describing the camp as “fantastic”, Healy says the 1-2 year players have now established their place at the club and revealed a strength of character he hopes will serve them when representing the club at AFL level, or developing their craft in the local league.
“We’ve got a really good group of fine young men who Geoff Parker and Jason Cripps have put together and a lot of them showed really strong character points,” said Healy.
“We got exactly what we wanted out of it.”
Second year player Brendon Ah Chee told PTV the group was better for the camp and have forged some strong bonds with one another.
“Everyone showed a bit of leadership which was good and the coaches were after that,” said Ah Chee.
“Everyone walked out of the camp feeling really positive and having that connection with each other was really good.”
