ONLY the injury of veteran and former captain Dom Cassisi has been reported from Port Adelaide’s loss to Carlton on Sunday.

But the news is grim for the 30-year-old West Australian, who is set to miss four weeks with a hamstring injury after pulling the muscle against the Blues.

Although he will have scans to his hamstring tomorrow, it seems likely Cassisi will not return until after the Power's bye in Round 11.

Director of coaching and strategy Alan Richardson says Cassisi’s loss is significant.

“Our former captain is a very physical player and we’re really disappointed to lose him,” Richardson told portadelaidefc.com.au.

“He’s able to cover the opposition’s dangerous small forwards with the potential to go in the midfield and we saw him do that so well against the Gold Coast.

“On the weekend we were happy with the work he did on Garlett for a good part of the game.

“So to lose him is disappointing, but it gives the opportunity to somebody else.”

To add further significance to Port Adelaide's shortage of key defenders is confirmation that Jasper Pittard's hip flexor setback will see him miss through to early June.

Richardson said it was a story of perseverance for Pittard, whose return to football will be managed due to a difficult history with injury during his short career.

“We’re going to put him on ice until after the bye and we're hoping, all going well, he’ll be back playing after that.”

Centre half-backman Jackson Trengove is now just seven weeks away from a return to the Power’s main side and Richardson says the team will need inform SANFL players such as Jack Hombsch, Tom Logan and Round 8 omission Campbell Heath to fill the void left by the trio of Trengove, Pittard and Cassisi.

Brett Ebert is also likely to be back playing for the club’s SANFL side after the bye as his recovery from adductor surgery continues to progress on schedule.

Ruckman Brent Renouf reported knee soreness after the Power’s game against Richmond two weeks ago and has been slated for a return to playing duties in a fortnight.
