Members voice support for club stance
Port Adelaide members have resoundingly made their voice heard after the club chose to reject the SA Football Commission's recommendations on AFL Reserves in the SANFL.
It comes after the club's chairman David Koch stood firm against comments of football personality Stephen Rowe on Adelaide radio station FIVEaa on Thursday night.
In that interview, Rowe challenged the club to cast aside its AFL Reserves model which would retain its junior structures as one of nine teams in the SANFL competition.
Here are just some of the letters received by the club on Thursday which show the diversity of support for the club's stance:
Denis Way simply wanted to voice his support for the club's stance on not dissolving the Magpies.
"You and David Koch have my unbridled support for the club's 'status quo' stance."
While Kathryn and Malcolm Govett said the decision is in the best interests of the 'One Club' business model pursued since the reunification of the club in 2010.
"We fully support the position of the PAFC to retain its infrasturcture and links to its community. Clearly this model is the superior business plan for the PAFC going into the future.
"Any organisation would be derelict in its duties and responsibilities if it accepted the outrageous, restrictive and ludicrous conditions of the SANFL.
"We implore the PAFC to hold its ground on this matter."
For Jacob Wallace, the decision simply comes down to retaining the grassroots and community involvement the club has maintained since it was established as a sporting and social club for the local community back in 1870.
"The club, in its entirety, is who we are. Indeed, the continuing link to the grassroots is what sets us apart.
"The decisions of recent years, including 'One Club', the reaffirmation of links to 1870 etc, have begun the much needed process of getting back to our roots.
"It heartens me that the current leadership think along these lines."
For Wayne Jones, he simply loved the passion of club chairman David Koch in fighting to retain the club's heritage and complete presence in local football.
"I heard Kochie on FIVEaa last night and his position on our Reserves model was brilliant!
"Rest assured if this decision was put to our members I can pretty well guarantee a 99% vote in favour of what you blokes are doing - it' the RIGHT THING TO DO!"
More to come...
