Senior players Dom Cassisi and Robbie Gray have been selected in the Power’s team to play at Metricon Stadium on Saturday night.
Coming out of the side is Paul Stewart who has failed to recover from a corked knee sustained against the Crows and Kane Mitchell who has been placed back on the rookie list.
Cassisi has been named on the interchange and Gray in the forward pocket.
Senior coach Ken Hinkley told portadelaidefc.com.au the pair has been in good form to justify their selection.
“It’s important that they (Gray and Cassisi) worked their way back into the team and they need to get into the team on good for and not just because they were senior players,” explained Hinkley.
“Their form in the SANFL has been good for several weeks and we’re really pleased to get them back into the side.”
The selection marks Cassisi’s first AFL game since the final round of last year.
It also one year to the round since Gray was ruled out of season 2012 with an ACL injury.
The pair’s selection comes as a result of the re-listing of Kane Mitchell as a rookie, and the management of a knee concern sustained by Paul Stewart last weekend.
With no omissions due to form, Hinkley says the onus is on Cassisi and Gray to live up to expecations in the team this weekend.
“The makeup of the team has been working really well so it’s Dom and Robbie’s challenge to come in and fit inside the group and make sure they don’t let anyone down with what they’re expected to do,” said Hinkley.
“No doubt they’re (the Gold Coast) a much better side at home, they’re form over the first three rounds has been really good and they’re going to provide a great challenge for us.
“If we’re not on our game they’re going to cause a lot of trouble.”
Stewart was in line for selection, but concerns over the small recovery window in the club’s six day break between Rounds 3 and 4 led to him being rested this weekend.
“Stewy was really close – I reckon he would’ve nearly got there on a seven or eight day break - but on a six day break without a lot of recovery we were a little concerned that he wouldn’t have been able to get through the whole game,” said Hinkley.
The team will fly out with Tom Logan the travelling emergency, while fellow emergencies Sam Colquhoun and Andrew Moore will play for their respective SANFL sides Central District and North Adelaide.
