Power sets bar high: Schulz
Jay Schulz says the Power is setting the bar high this weekend and looking forward as it looks to atone for recent poor form.
Speaking ahead of the Power's flight to Darwin for its top end clash with the Bulldogs, Schulz said it would be difficult to deny improvement in a Port side that has already equalled last year's win tally.
"From anyone outside looking in you'd have to say we've improved," said Schulz.
"We've won five so far this year, I think our playing group is a much more resilient group for what happened last year and previous years before that."
But after a month of losses, Schulz says the team has its own expectations to recapture its early-season form and get back onto the "winner's bandwagon."
"We're much more determined to not have blowout games, not to let sides run away with things," said Schulz of the club's recent form.
"We're certainly seeing that with guys never giving up and having a crack right to the end."
Port Adelaide has started its matches poorly for several weeks, including conceding margins of 39 points to Geelong and 37 points to Richmond, while only conceding a further nine and four points for the rest of those games.
Schulz says the playing group expected to perform better in those and two other losses and isn't satisfied with its recent performances.
Despite a record 5-0 start to the season, he says the team will work constructively to respond to criticism and become a better group every week. .
"There are some games in there we were hoping to win over the last four weeks and we want to be demanding of each other to keep improving and keep winning games," said Schulz.
"We don't want just to accept we've won five games for the year.
"We don't have a group that wants to be happy, we want to be happy with playing finals.
"It's something we haven't done, it's something I've never done so I welcome criticism from the outside world because it makes us ... strive to be a better group."
Port Adelaide flies to Darwin on Thursday morning ahead of its Round 10 match against the Western Bulldogs at 7:10pm on Saturday night.
