Cibo Glenelg SANFL Player of the Week
Marlon Motlop (for North v Eagles at Woodville)
Marlon made his league debut and kicked a goal with his first kick. He had 9 possessions and kicked 3 goals and everything he did was pure quality. He also had 6 tackles and 3 chases in a very impressive first league game for young Marlon.

Damon White (for North v Eagles at Woodville)He played at centre half back and centre half forward. Damon had a quieter game than he has been having. He didn’t get a lot of it earlier but did a pretty good job when he was moved onto Ken McGregor in the second half.

Nathan Lonie (for North v Eagles at Woodville)Continued his consistent form with 19 possessions and 4 inside 50s. His consistency will have him knocking on the door of selection.

Paul Stewart (for Eagles v North at Woodville)Played on the wing and had 19 possessions and 9 marks. Stewie’s courage stood out in this game – the way he was able to drop back into the hole and help out his defenders was really impressive.

Nick Salter (for Eagles v North at Woodville)Nick played at half-back and on the ball, which is a bit different to the role he had been playing as the go-to forward. He had 18 kicks, 4 marks, 1 handball, 5 clearances, 6 tackles and a goal. His stoppage work was fantastic and he looks to be becoming a big-bodied midfielder. Although this position wasn’t something we were looking at initially, if he can get another good pre-season in, it could be an option for him.

Ryan Williams (for Central v Port at Alberton)Ryan had 18 possessions but it probably wasn’t one of his better games. That shows just how far he has developed to have picked up 18 possessions in a league game but still to be expecting more – the bar has definitely been raised with Ryan.

Jonathon Giles (for Central v Port at Alberton)Gilesy was disappointing, but continues to work hard on his game. He had 13 hit-outs but hopefully he’ll be back with a better game next week.

Nathan Krakouer (for Port v Central at Alberton)Was ok on a wing for three quarters, highlighted by 8 chases – something we’ve been working with him on – and 5 inside 50s. He was moved to full-forward in the last quarter and kicked 3 goals and looked exciting. For him to pick up his game like that in the last quarter was quite pleasing.

Nick Lower (for Norwood v Glenelg at Norwood)Nick had a reasonably good game with 26 possessions and 13 marks. He did some nice defensive work helping out the back line but it was a tough day for Norwood who only kicked one goal for the entire game. Nick had the Play of the Week for running back with the flight of the ball into traffic and making a spoil.

Adam Cockshell (for Norwood v Glenelg at Norwood)Adam did some rucking and played a bit at full forward. The ball didn’t come inside 50 much so he didn’t have many opportunities but he jumped well when he was in the ruck with 18 hitouts.

Ryan Willits (for West v South at Richmond)Ryan was very good, he presented well and had a good presence around the ground. He had 14 possessions, 8 marks and 2.4. He needed to make a bit more of his scoring opportunites.

Gavin Grose (for North reserves v Eagles reserves at Woodville)Gav got dropped back to the reserves despite some handy performances in the league side. Had 19 possessions at centre half back in a solid game. He ran and created well and also hit his targets consistently. He bounced back well after the disappointment of being dropped.

Greg Bentley (for South reserves v West reserves at Richmond)Bents played for South under the guest player rule because Sturt had the bye. He handled himself very well and had 26 touches. He kicked 1.2 and handed off 3 goals to team-mates. Bents looked a class above the rest and got South across the line for their first win of the season.

Matthew Lobbe (for Port reserves v Central reserves at Alberton)Played centre half forward, centre half back and in the ruck and picked up 11 hitous, 5 kicks and 9 handballs as well as 3 strong tackles, which is something we’ve been working on with him. He probably wasn’t quite as good as the week before but he’s still showing some good signs.
