THE first week of the finals in the local competition saw a double-header held at AAMI Stadium on Sunday.

South Adelaide continued their momentum, defeating Glenelg in the Elimination Final. Norwood impressed against the Eagles in the Qualifying Final, running out winners by just on ten goals.

Central District earned the right to a week off as minor premiers.

Both games were watched closely by development manager Daniel Healy and development coach Matthew Nicks, and they elected to not highlight an individual player this week. Their full report is below.

Daniel Bass (for Panthers vs Tigers)
Bassy played a new role, actually ending up at full back for most of the day. With the South midfield well on top for most of the game there was limited ball coming down to Glenelg’s forward line, but when that ball did come down Bass was very good - very accountable, he made a contest each time, and managed ot keep his opponent reasonably quiet. He spent a little bit of time in the ruck here and there in what was a great win for South Adelaide.

Jarrad Redden (for Eagles vs Redlegs)
Reddo came on in the ruck to play his part - he tapwork was very good in the ruck contests, but Norwood’s on-ballers were very good and well on top as far as clearances go.

Tom Jonas (for Redlegs vs Eagles)
Tom played on-ball, a really tight role for the day on a number of opponents. He was very good coming back from his first taste of AFL in the final few rounds of 2011 - he looked composed, put a lot of pressure on (as did all the Norwood players around the stoppages), and was very good in an important game for his side.

Mitch Curnow (for Double Blues u/18s vs Roosters)
The Sturt team got defeated on the day in windy conditions at Alberton. North were just a little bit too strong, and Mitch tried really hard but the conditions made it particularly difficult for big men on the day, where he played forward for most of the day with short spurts on-ball in the ruck.
