Port Adelaide players continue to impress in the state league with our development team out around the grounds over the weekend to observe a number of key Power men.
Brendon Ah Chee (for Port Adelaide reserves v Double Blues)
Played up forward in the first half and struggled to find the ball, but when he went on-ball in the second half he was quite prominent in some of his work around the stoppages, his competitiveness was very good and he showed some of the reasons why we picked him up. He needs to work on his ability to spread and get the ball away from stoppages but in close he was very good and is certainly one to watch in the future.
Mitch Curnow (for Double Blues reserves v Port Adelaide)
Mitch rucked again and had a better performance than last week. He was quite dominant in the ruck and continues to work on his around the ground play and getting involved in the play more and more.
Jasper Pittard (for Double Blues reserves v Port Adelaide)
Coming back from his hamstring injury he played very good for two solid quarters and showed a lot of dash. Unfortunately he reinjured that hamstring in the middle of the third quarter and is back on the injury list, which is disappointing for him.
Tom Jonas (for Redlegs v Bulldogs)
Played at half back for Norwood - really hard, really strong, physical and intense as always - he always does what the coaches ask of him. His challenge is to get more offensive ball and he had 12 or 13 possessions and this is the area we work on with him. He’s doing all the right things in terms of beating his opponent and playing the man in a winning side so it’s more good news from Tommy.
Simon Phillips (for Redlegs v Bulldogs)
It was a tough night for Simon - he was heavily tagged by a young Centrals player who did a good job on him. That will be a challenge for him going forward - the more and more footy he plays, and certainly at AFL if he’s able to impact, he’ll definitely get somebody sitting on him - so it was a lesson for him in the work rate required and he’s going to work hard on trying to hit that.
Brent Renouf (for Redlegs reserves v Bulldogs)
Brent made a long awaited comeback from his knee injury in the reserves for Norwood. He played 60% game time and got through well, which was very pleasing. He was against a much smaller opponent so he got to do whatever he wanted in the ruck. Around the ground he did well and is very competitive on the ground - he looked as though he was better for the run. Brent probably needs another week or so before he’s really ready to go - but very encouraging signs from him.
Aaron Young (for Roosters v Panthers)
Struggled to get into the game for the first three quarters playing as a half-forward in a close, hard-fought game. He had Josh Thewlis (who is an accomplished defender) playing on him so Youngy will be looking forward to having another crack this week.
Nathan Blee (for Roosters v Panthers)
Nathan played down back in his first game in the SANFL. He got beaten by a forward who is in good form (Andrew Ainger) but learned a lot from that encounter and will be looking forward to next week as well.
Andrew Moore (For Roosters reserves v Panthers)
Played half-back changing to on-ball for a half of each. We saw some forward steps for Moorey working well through the middle, he finished with 24 possessions and he continues to improve from week-to-week.
Ben Newton (For Bloods reserves v Tigers)
Picked up 22 possessions in the reserves for Westies and kicked two goals. One particularly good one saw him kick a really nice running goal from 40 metres out with 2 or 3 bounces. Benny has now strung a few games together and is getting better each week.
Tom Logan (for Tigers v Bloods)
Tommy’s effort and intensity was really good. He played wing and half forward for the Tigers and had one particularly important passage of play where he put his body on the line and won the ball which resulted in Glenelg kicking a goal and sealing the game.
Daniel Webb (for Bloods v Tigers)
Webby’s effort was really good - aggressive! He didn’t get out-marked and he won the ruck contests. Delivery into the forward line for him wasn’t great, and he had two opponents playing on him so he battled there. His perseverance was good though and he kept competing and played in a good style through to the end of the game.
