PORT Adelaide coach Matthew Primus has denied Daniel Motlop's career is over despite the enigmatic forward being sent back to the SANFL for the second time this season.

Motlop was a surprise omission from the team to play North Melbourne at AAMI Stadium on Sunday.

The 29-year-old spent the first two weeks of the season at North Adelaide for disciplinary reasons, but was recalled to play against Geelong in round three.

He's played every game since, kicking 14 goals and more recently adding skill and run in defence.

Primus has made no secret of his plan to rebuild with youth this season, but said the veteran goalkicker would be given every opportunity to reclaim a spot in the team.

"Daniel can go back and get in some good form like he did during the NAB Cup and in round one," Primus said on Friday.

"Daniel's form hasn't been great since he's been in the team. He's had a few pretty good games … and he's gone back [into defence] and done bits and pieces, but we're looking for something a little bit different and seeing if we can add some more midfield run to the team.

"We haven't ruled out anyone [in terms of] whether they're on our list or not on our list for next year. It's getting closer towards that, but the selections we're making now are still based on form and the balance of the team."

Motlop will join long-time teammate Chad Cornes in the SANFL this weekend.

Cornes hasn't played since full-forward Jay Schulz returned from injury in round seven, and there's been speculation the club has agreed to give the premiership player and dual All-Australian a farewell game against Collingwood at AAMI Stadium in round 20.

Primus denied a date had been set for Cornes' AFL swansong, but said the 31-year-old deserved a farewell game under the right circumstances.

"I'm all for farewell games if people have given you a huge amount to your club - I think they do deserve that," he said.

"We haven't totally ruled out Chad for the rest of the year playing with us.

"We're still looking at his form with Glenelg and he hasn't totally decided what he's doing at the end of the year."

Steven Salopek and Brett Ebert will also line up in the SANFL after being overlooked at selection.

Primus said he needed to see more from both players before considering them for a recall.

"Last week, 'Sal' found a lot of the ball but the week before he had 14 or 15 possessions, so we want to see him consistently do it over a number of weeks," he said.

"And Brett's form has been OK. He's a crucial player for us now and in the future, so we want to get him into some kind of form before we bring him in for us."

Livewire David Rodan has been recalled to the team to play North Melbourne following a six-goal haul for Norwood.

Second-year defender Andrew Moore will also line up against the Kangaroos, while defender Michael Pettigrew has been dropped.

The Power lost by 60 points when the two teams met at Etihad Stadium in round six and laid a season-low 38 tackles.

Primus said he'd reminded his players of their performance against the Roos earlier this season in the lead up to the game on Sunday evening.

"Our most disappointing effort [in terms of] intensity was when we played North earlier this year," he said.

"North are very consistent in a lot of areas. You know they're always in the game and are always at you and they've obviously hit a bit of form over the last few weeks and beaten some good teams."

"Our last month has been OK [in terms of] consistency, but we still haven't won."
